Zoom teeth whitening in Miami, in a single visit

Zoom teeth whitening in Miami is our in-office whitening: a hydrogen peroxide gel from Philips, renewed in short rounds under a blue LED lamp while your gums stay covered. The appointment takes about an hour, and you leave with a lighter shade the same day.

What Zoom whitening is

Zoom is a professional whitening system made by Philips. The in-office version, Zoom WhiteSpeed, pairs a 25% hydrogen peroxide gel with a blue LED lamp. The gel is much stronger than drugstore strips, which is why a dentist applies it and why your gums are covered before it goes on.

The peroxide moves through the enamel and breaks down the colored molecules in the enamel and the dentin underneath, so the tooth looks lighter. The lamp is meant to speed that up. The research on the lamp is mixed: several reviews found that the light adds little whitening beyond the gel itself, and some found more sensitivity with it. Where Zoom helps is time: a strong gel, applied and watched by a dentist, does in one appointment what take-home trays do over days or weeks.

Zoom only lightens natural teeth. Crowns, veneers, bonding and fillings keep their color. If you want to hold the result, we can also make custom trays for touch-ups at home.

  1. Gum barrier. Painted along the gum line before the gel goes on, so the strong gel stays on the enamel and off the gums.
  2. Whitening gel. A 25% hydrogen peroxide gel on the front of each tooth, removed and renewed about every 15 minutes under the lamp.
  3. Lower front teeth. The gel goes on the visible teeth of both arches in the same visit.
  4. Gums. Covered where they meet the teeth. Gum irritation from whitening is usually temporary and passes within days.

Who Zoom whitening is for

Zoom suits healthy teeth whose color has dulled, when you want the change in one appointment.

When we suggest something else. If your teeth are already sensitive, take-home trays with a milder gel are usually easier to tolerate. A single tooth darkened after a root canal or an injury needs internal whitening, which works from inside the tooth. Gray stains from tetracycline may barely respond, and front teeth with crowns or veneers will not change. Whitening is also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone 17 or younger. Cavities and gum disease are treated first.

How a Zoom session works

From exam to final shade check, this is the order of the appointment.

  1. Exam and starting shade

We check your teeth and gums, note any crowns, veneers or fillings that will not lighten, and record your starting shade. If there is plaque or tartar, a cleaning comes first so the gel works evenly.

    Before your session

  2. Protecting gums and lips

A retractor holds your lips and cheeks back. We cover the gums with a protective barrier, and you wear tinted glasses against the lamp.

    Start of the visit

  3. Gel and lamp, in rounds

We apply the gel to the front of your teeth and position the lamp. After about 15 minutes, we remove the gel and apply fresh gel. Most sessions use three rounds. The Philips protocol allows up to four.

    About 45 minutes

  4. Comfort gel and new shade

We finish with a gel that helps with sensitivity, then compare your new shade with the starting one and go over aftercare. If you want touch-up trays, we take impressions now.

What patients ask before deciding

How much does Zoom teeth whitening cost?

At Miami Perfect Smile, a Zoom session starts at $300. A cleaning beforehand or custom trays for touch-ups add to that, and your exact price is confirmed at your consultation. Dental insurance usually treats whitening as cosmetic and does not cover it. Financing is available.

What is Zoom teeth whitening?

It is an in-office whitening system made by Philips. A dentist covers your gums, applies a 25% hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth and places a blue LED lamp in front of them. The gel is renewed in rounds of about 15 minutes, and the whole visit takes about an hour.

Is Zoom teeth whitening painful?

The session itself is not usually painful, though holding your mouth open for most of an hour can tire you. Sensitivity is the common complaint: short twinges during or after treatment that usually fade within a day or two. If your teeth are already sensitive, tell us first. Take-home trays may suit you better.

Is Zoom whitening safe for your teeth?

Yes, when a dentist does it on healthy teeth. The gums are covered so the gel only touches enamel, and the main side effects, sensitivity and gum irritation, are usually temporary. Trouble comes from overuse, so repeat sessions should be spaced out, not done back to back.

How long does Zoom teeth whitening last?

Usually six months to three years. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking shorten it. Rinsing after dark drinks and doing a few nights with custom trays when the shade starts to slip help it last.

Is Zoom teeth whitening worth it?

It is worth it if you want a lighter shade in one appointment. If time is not a concern, take-home trays from a dentist can reach a similar shade, in one study after about a week of use, with less sensitivity. Studies have not shown that the lamp adds much on its own, so most of what you pay for is the speed and having a dentist run the session.

Does Zoom work on crowns or veneers?

No. Zoom only lightens natural teeth. Crowns, veneers, bonding and fillings keep their current color, so they can look darker next to whitened teeth. We check for them at your exam and plan around them, or match new restorations to your new shade afterward.
