Porcelain veneers in Miami, shaped to your face

Our porcelain veneers in Miami are thin ceramic shells, made by our own ceramists and bonded to the front of your teeth in two visits. They change the color, shape and length of the teeth you show when you smile, and we design them around your face before anything is bonded.

What porcelain veneers are

A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth. It covers what people see when you smile: the color, the edges, the outline and small gaps. A crown wraps the whole tooth. A veneer covers only the front and part of the edge, so more of your own tooth stays where it is.

To make room for the shell, the dentist removes a small amount of enamel from the front and sides of each tooth. That step can't be undone. A tooth prepared for a veneer will always need a veneer, or another restoration, over it. We say this at the first visit because it is the main thing to weigh before you agree to treatment.

Porcelain resists stains better than natural enamel and better than composite resin, and it handles light much like a real tooth. With good care, veneers usually last 10 to 15 years, according to Cleveland Clinic. A 2021 review of 25 clinical studies, covering about 6,500 porcelain veneers, estimated that around 95 in 100 were still in service after ten years.

  2. Enamel. A small amount is removed from the front and sides so the veneer sits flush. That step can’t be undone.
  3. Dentin. The layer under the enamel, which makes up most of the tooth. It stays in place under the veneer, and it can still decay if the tooth isn’t kept clean.
  4. Gum. Veneers need healthy gums around them. Gum disease is treated before any veneer is placed.

Who they are for

Veneers change how the front teeth look, and they work best when the teeth underneath are healthy.

When we suggest something else. Cavities and gum disease are treated first. If you clench or grind hard, or have a deep overbite, porcelain is more likely to chip, so we may plan a night guard or a different treatment. Crowded teeth often do better with orthodontics before, or instead of, veneers. If only one tooth is chipped, bonding may be enough, and if color is the only problem, try whitening first.

How it works, visit by visit

Two visits at our office in Doral, with an optional online step before you travel.

  1. Online consultation

You send photographs of your smile. One of our doctors tells you what is realistic for your case, what it is likely to involve and roughly what it will cost. You can look at financing at this stage and pick a date.

    Before you book, optional

  2. Exam, design and preparation

Exam, X-rays and photographs, then the design: shape, size and shade, chosen with you. You see a preview of the result before you decide. Once you approve it, the teeth are numbed and prepared, and you leave wearing temporary veneers.

    First visit

  3. Made in our lab

Our in-house master ceramists make each veneer to the approved design. The lab is part of the practice, so the doctor and the ceramist work on your case side by side.

    Between visits

  4. Fitting

We try the veneers in and check the fit, the shade and the shape against your face before bonding them. Each one is bonded with resin cement, and then we check your bite.

What porcelain veneers in Miami cost

Our smile makeover is 20 porcelain veneers, 10 upper and 10 lower, designed and fitted in two visits. The starting price includes the initial exam, X-rays and photographs, and the work of our in-house master ceramists.

The final figure depends on your case: how many teeth you want covered, and whether anything has to be treated first, such as a cavity or gum disease. We confirm your exact plan at the first visit, before you commit.

Dental insurance usually doesn't cover veneers placed for cosmetic reasons. We accept insurance for the care your plan does cover, and we can check your plan with you before you come in.

Recovery and aftercare

What patients ask before deciding

Do porcelain veneers hurt?

The preparation is done with local anesthetic, so you feel pressure rather than pain. Afterward your teeth may be sensitive to hot and cold for a while. Most people go back to work the same day.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Usually 10 to 15 years with good care, and often longer. In a 2021 review of 25 clinical studies, about 95 in 100 porcelain veneers were still in service after ten years. Grinding, biting hard objects and skipping check-ups shorten that.

Can you go back to your natural teeth after veneers?

No. Some enamel is removed to place a porcelain veneer, and enamel doesn't grow back. When a veneer wears out, it is replaced with a new veneer or another restoration.

Can I bite into an apple with veneers?

It is safer to cut apples and other hard or crunchy food into pieces and chew with your back teeth. Porcelain is strong, but biting straight into something hard puts force on the edges, and that is where chips start.

Will porcelain veneers stain?

Porcelain resists stains better than natural enamel, but the surface can still pick up some color from coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco. Rinsing after them and keeping your cleanings helps.

Can you whiten porcelain veneers?

No. Whitening gels lighten natural teeth, not porcelain, and abrasive whitening products can scratch the surface. If you want your other teeth whiter, whiten them before the veneers are made so we can match the new shade.

How much do porcelain veneers cost per tooth?

We price the full smile makeover by arch: from $5,500 for 10 upper veneers, from $4,500 for 10 lower, and from $9,000 for both, or from $209 a month with financing. A smaller number of veneers is priced at your consultation.
